I know what predestination is, but can you explain what DOUBLE predestination is?

it's this idea: just like some were predestined to an eternal life of bliss with the LORD, others were predestined by God to eternal torment.

my answer? i believe in the former but haven't researched the latter. someone might say that the logical conclusion for the former is the latter, but i won't reach that conclusion unless it's written in Scripture like the former is. if it's written, i believe it. so those who believe it, please cite the text addy.

Thanks Eve. If that's what DOUBLE predestination is, then I don't see what the difference is. If God did predestine people to be saved, then it would only make sense that the others are going to Hell unless I'm missing something...

God has preserved his own for eternal life in him.
He has however reserved the wicked for the day of evil.
Two different terms... tho people get preserved and reserved confused.
We also get predestined and ordained confused. (Those saints are predestined in Christ and those reprobate are reserved for evil)
The two terms aren't synonomous in the greek, tho in the english they are used interchangebly.

    Ordained= Prographo .. Written beforehand

Predestined = Prohoridzo .. Written beforehand, marked, planned, purposed

Calvin went off the deep end on this doctrine according to scripture and my own (and many other teacher and preachers' studies and revelations)... IMO

The book of Jude, Job , mmm .. I believe Peter references the term reserved and ordained for reprobates. (the greek) And also:
    2Pet 2:1
    Deut 13:18
    Eph 3:3
    Rom 15:4
    Heb 7:14

Meaning, it was written beforehand that those that were not elect would be reserved for hell. BUT, the tricky part is that they are going to hell NOT because they are not elect, but because of their sin. And also, when the Lord did reserve them, he does not proactively do anything outside of his nature of sovereign plan in their reservation. He simply gives them over. It is sad but a necessary truth that points to his glory.

In other passages in the scripture he talks about the elect. This is where the term predestined is used. (the greek)
    Rom 8:29, 30
    Eph 1:5, 11
    Acts 13:38

But yeah, I try not to pry too much into God's divine purpose in election, preservation and reservation. It can get above my head.
I am maaad thankful for the calling to suffer that is election. God chose me through his son to suffer for his own glory.
I can just leave it right there.
    Good question.

Rom. 9.22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known gthe riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?

2Tim. 2.20 ¶ Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.

On an unrelated topic but related to your statement; what is your stance on women taking communion?

Let me dive in for a minor second and remind all of us that our priorites should lie not in trying to get a firm grip on this doctrine, but to rejoice because our names are written in heaven. Amen? I've seen people focus so much on this topic they become cold and calloused to their neighbor. "Well you weren't meant to be saved anyways, so let me ignore you". No joke. As much is given, much is required. That means more doctrine should = more humility.

    Doctrine is likened unto fear.
